TALLAHASSEE – Governor Charlie Crist today announced the appointment of Hillsborough County Judge Tom Barber to the 13th Judicial Circuit Court.

“Judge Barber’s judicial experience and balanced civil and criminal law background will be an asset to the 13th Circuit Court,” Governor Crist said. “He has the integrity and ability to make legal decisions while showing compassion for individuals in his courtroom.”

Since 2004, Barber has served as a County Court Judge in the 13th Judicial Circuit. Barber previously practiced law with Carlton Fields from 2000 to 2004 and 1992 to 1997 and with the State Attorney’s Office from 1997 to 1999 and the Office of Statewide Prosecution from 1999 to 2000. Judge Barber is an adjunct faculty member at the Stetson College of Law, and he has authored 19 published legal articles.

A graduate of the University of Florida, Barber received his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Barber will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Monica L. Sierra.
